Published on October 5, 2019, a dramatic incident unfolded in Nairobi's Eastleigh area when three police officers were arrested for robbing two businessmen of Sh6 million.

The incident occurred at around 1am on Saturday when six gunmen, later identified as police officers, broke into a lodging along Second Street and ordered the businessmen to surrender their cash.

The two businessmen, who had booked the lodging, obeyed the orders and surrendered the 60,000 US dollars they had. The gunmen left immediately, but the businessmen raised alarm and asked for help.

Police who were patrolling in the area responded and intercepted four of the men, only to discover that they were fellow officers attached to Kayole Police Division.

Three pistols with 38 bullets and a communication gadget were recovered from the officers. A Cameroon national was also arrested alongside the police officers.

One officer is reportedly on the run, and police believe the robbery was an inside job. The suspects are being detained at the Pangani Police Station ahead of their arraignment on Monday, according to Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo.

This incident is the latest in a series of cases where police officers are involved in crime instead of fighting it. In a separate incident, three police officers were arrested along the Nairobi-Garissa highway while transporting 245 kilos of bhang.
