Published on October 5, 2019, this article presents a recipe for a healthier version of the traditional chocolate shake. Dark chocolate has been shown to improve health and lower the risk of heart disease, making it a worthwhile alternative to traditional chocolate.

For this recipe, pure cocoa powder is used instead of drinking chocolate, which contains added sugar. Bananas provide the sweetness needed for the shake.

Ingredients:

  • 5-6 ripe bananas
  • 70-80g cocoa powder
  • 500ml ice cold milk
  • 100ml unsweetened whipped cream
  • 50g chocolate sprinkles (optional)
  • A few dark chocolate truffles (optional)

Instructions:

Peel the bananas and add them to a blender. Gradually add the cocoa powder and ice cold milk, blending until the mixture is smooth.

Check the consistency and color of the shake. If it's not dark enough, add more cocoa powder to achieve the desired darkness. Taste the shake and adjust the sweetness by adding more bananas, which will also make the shake thicker and richer.

Prepare the glasses by dipping the rim into a bowl of whipped cream and then into a bowl of chocolate sprinkles. Pour the dark chocolate shake into the glasses and top with unsweetened whipped cream. Garnish with extra banana slices and chocolate truffles, if desired.
