On October 2, Sportpesa announced its closure in Kenya, leaving over 400 employees jobless. Just a day later, Ekabet, a new entrant in the Kenyan betting market, reported receiving 197 job applications from former Sportpesa employees.
Ekabet CEO Evans Gicho attributed the surge in applications to the company's user-friendly website and USSD platform, which allows users to access up to eight markets by dialling 297# on their mobile phones.
Ekabet has also introduced a new feature that ensures data efficiency for users and is currently awarding new subscribers with welcome bonuses.
According to Gicho, the applications 'have been flooding in but bulged yesterday.' The company has also earned a reputation for fast payouts and the best gaming odds.
Ekabet is among more than 15 betting firms licensed by the government of Kenya to conduct its businesses in the country and champions for responsible gaming.
