Published on October 4, 2019, gospel artist Mercy Masika expressed her disappointment over the increasing number of gospel artistes transitioning to secular music.
According to Masika, these artistes often fail to achieve long-term success, and their decision to pursue secular music is a waste of time and resources.
She emphasized that the primary goal of gospel music is to spread the message of God, and when artistes focus on entertainment, they deviate from this purpose.
"There is a shift. It is no longer about entertainment. Anyone who is going on the wave of entertainment is going nowhere. It is just going to make noise and have no impact," Masika said.
She warned that gospel artistes who lose focus on their mission will be replaced by new talent, ultimately leading to their downfall.
Notably, Masika's comments may be directed at artists like Willy Paul and Bahati, who have ventured into secular music.
Her message serves as a caution to gospel artistes, urging them to remain true to their calling and avoid the pitfalls of secular music.
