Hashim Sempala, the captain of Tusker, a 11-time Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) champion, has parted ways with the club after his two-year contract expired on Tuesday.

The Ugandan midfielder, 26, joined Tusker in 2016 from Uganda's Bul FC and was part of the team that won the FKF-PL title and Gotv Shield Cup in the same year.

However, Sempala's stay at the club was not without controversy. He left Tusker in 2019 for Gor Mahia, reportedly due to a falling out with coach Robert Matano.

But his stint at Gor Mahia was short-lived, lasting only about four months of the two-year contract he had signed.

He returned to Tusker, where he replaced Dancan Ochieng as the club's captain, and has been instrumental in the midfield this season as the team closes in on the league title.

Tusker's chairman, Daniel Aduda, thanked Sempala for his services, saying, "We want to thank Hashim for his services and what he has offered to the club. We had a mutual conversation where he informed us of his intention to seek greener pastures after the expiry of his contract and as a club we respected his decision."

Aduda also praised Sempala's contributions to the team, saying, "He has served us diligently and we will forever be thankful for his work and contribution to the success of the club. He starred for us as we won the double in 2016 and we have many other fond memories of his time with us."
