At the Doha World Championships on October 3, 2019, Kenyan runners Faith Chepng'etich Kipyegon and Winnie Chebet secured their spots in the women's 1500m final.
Defending champion Chepng'etich finished fourth in the first semi-final, which was won by Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands. Hassan's coach, Alberto Salazar, had been banned from coaching just two days prior due to doping allegations.
Chepng'etich clocked 4:14.98, while Hassan won in 4:14.69. The top four finishers in each heat qualified for the final.
Chebet finished fifth in Heat 2, which was won by American Jenny Simpson in 4:00.99. The women's 1500m final took place on Saturday at 8:55pm EAT.
