On June 23, 2016, lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda, and driver Joseph Muiruri went missing after a court hearing in Syokimau. Their mutilated bodies were later found in gunny bags at Oldonyo Sabuk River, a week after their disappearance.

Investigating officer Nicholas Ole Sena has exonerated AP officer Sylvia Wanjiku from the triple murders. Sena told trial Judge Jessie Lesiit that Wanjiku did not feature in any communication data or CCTV footage linked to the conspiracy to murder the trio.

Although Wanjiku was on duty on the fateful day, Sena said she only failed to report to her seniors. Wanjiku is charged alongside Fredrick Leliman, Stephen Cheburet, Leonard Mwangi, and police informer Peter Ngugi.

Chief government Pathologist Johansen Oduor testified that the three had fractured skulls and injuries on the chest, neck, and face. He said they were ultimately bludgeoned to death using a blunt object.
