On October 3, 2019, Nairobi County government took a significant step towards enhancing public safety by banning the parking of matatus in petrol stations within the city.
The decision, announced by county director of parking Tom Tinega, aims to prevent potential disasters that could arise from the presence of highly inflammable petrol and public service vehicles in close proximity.
According to the notice, petrol station owners are no longer allowed to permit PSVs (matatus) to park inside their premises, effective immediately.
Matatu owners in Nairobi will have to explore alternative parking arrangements, as the county government seeks to minimize the risk of accidents and ensure the safety of both drivers and passengers.
