On August 31, 2021, a dramatic turn of events unfolded in the Kianjokoma six murder case as ten lawyers representing the six police officers withdrew from the case.

The move, which came as a surprise, left the court with no choice but to defer plea taking for the four officers who requested more time to engage new lawyers.

The six police officers, who were recently arrested over the suspected killing of Emmanuel Mutura and Benson Njiru, were produced at the Milimani Law Courts to answer to charges of murder.

The officers, including Corporal Benson Mbuthia, Corporal Consolata Kariuki, and Constables Nicholas Sang Cheruiyot, Martin Wanyama, Lilian Chemuna, and James Mwaniki, appeared before Justice Daniel Ogembo to plead to charges of killing the two brothers along Kiriari-Mbuvori road in Embu County.

The state is represented by lawyers Gakui Gichuhi, Everlyn Onunga, and Jacinta Nyamosi.
