On October 2, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded at the Likoni channel in Kenya as a man, later identified as Timiza, attempted to swim across the ocean. The incident occurred after ferry services were suspended due to the ongoing search for missing bodies.
Despite being disabled with only one functional right leg, Timiza showed remarkable courage and swam halfway across the ocean before being blocked by Kenya Rescue Divers. The divers were part of a multi-agency search team that had resumed operations to find the bodies of Mariam Kigenda and her daughter Amanda, who had drowned after a car fell off the ferry on September 29.
Timiza's actions left many in awe, but also raised concerns about his safety. He was eventually arrested and taken away.
As the search for the missing bodies continued, experts combed through nine mapped points where the vehicle and its occupants were believed to have sunk.
