Published on October 3, 2019, Kwale county is witnessing a gubernatorial succession battle, with two lawmakers reading from different scripts.
Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani has thrown his hat in the ring, declaring his interest to succeed Kwale governor Salim Mvurya, whose tenure comes to an end in 2022.
At a funds drive in aid of boda boda operators in Kinango constituency, Mwashetani announced that he will launch his gubernatorial bid before the end of the year.
"My first launch of my campaign strategies will be in Kinango subcounty to ensure the operators are economically empowered," he stated.
Notably, Mwashetani welcomed critics from all corners of the county, including Lunganzi Chai, who has also shown interest in the gubernatorial succession battle.
Local MP Benjamin Tayari, who hosted a funds drive at Mwanda Primary School in Kinango constituency, cautioned his constituents to tread carefully, as the gubernatorial succession race could tear the county apart and plunge it into clannism.
