On October 3, 2019, residents of parts of Mathioya, Kiharu, and Maragua sub-counties in Murang'a were given hope as a Ksh 220 million water supply project got underway.
The Gatango Water Supply Project, located at the northern parts of the county, aims to supply water to over 60,000 people from areas that usually receive minimal rains.
Big beneficiaries will be residents of Gaturi and lower parts of Maragua, areas that experience perennial shortages of water for domestic use.
The project, funded by the World Bank, is at 85 percent complete and is expected to be commissioned by December 2019.
Members of the Murang'a County Development Implementation and Coordination Committee (CDICC) visited the project on Wednesday and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing works.
Project Manager Ephantus Mugo said that despite some challenges, the construction works are expected to be complete by the end of November 2019.
He added that the sedimentation tank is expected to treat 4,000 litres of water daily, with 2,000 litres being channeled to Gaturi ward and the rest to residents of Mathioya constituency.
The project is among several water projects being implemented in the county by Athi Water Services Board.
