On July 9, 2019, a heinous crime shook the quiet village of Kabolebo in Tinderet, Nandi County. Floxy Cheptoo, a 32-year-old woman, allegedly murdered her two young daughters, Ivy Chelang'at, 11, and Berly Chepchumba, 7, in a bedroom they shared with their cousins.
According to police, Cheptoo committed the cold-blooded murder so that she could get married to her lover, who had lied to her that she needed to kill her kids to be married to him.
“Her male friend lied to her that she should kill her kids so that she can be married to the man who comes from the same village,” police said.
After the crime, Cheptoo abandoned her husband and moved to Morosiot, leaving behind a trail of grief and shock. However, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were hot on her heels, laying a trap for her through a friend who promised her a well-paying job.
When Cheptoo arrived at her friend's home, she was met with a surprise - officers from the DCI were waiting for her. She was detained at Kapsabet Police Station and is awaiting arraignment in court.
