On October 1, 2019, police officers in Mombasa launched a daring raid on a rented room in Likoni's Majengo Mapya area, killing three suspected terrorists.

The suspects were shot dead inside the bedsitter room, which had been rented by Fawaz Ahmed Hamdun, a wanted Al-Shabaab operative in Kenya, according to police.

Anti-terror officers recovered a cache of explosives and ammunition from the house, including 68 air rifle pellets, five kilograms of ammonium nitrate, and 1,600 rounds of ammunition.

Hamdun, who is alleged to have planned the 2019 DusitD2 attack that left 21 people dead, was arrested on September 29, 2019, in an undercover operation carried out by a multi-agency team.

He was arraigned before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti on September 30, 2019, and was detained for 20 days pending the conclusion of investigations.
