On October 1, 2019, a dawn raid by the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) in Majengo Mapya, Likoni, Mombasa County resulted in the deaths of three suspected terrorists.

Seven other suspects were apprehended and are currently in police custody.

During the operation, police recovered a significant cache of weapons and items, including over 1,600 rounds of ammunition, a grenade, and a G3 rifle.

Other recovered items included pistol magazines loaded with ammunition, police and KDF uniforms, three knives, and religious books.

The police also seized 68 air rifle pellets, 5kg of ammonium nitrate, nine balaclavas, military holsters and porches, rifle oil, one GPS, and six machetes.

A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, witnessed the operation and reported that some of the officers wore balaclavas.

"We heard loud gunfire that lasted for minutes. We were locked in our rooms when the officers arrived and asked us not to come out," the neighbour said.
