Kenya's economy is a significant player in the region, with a total value of Sh4.3 trillion ($50 billion). However, a report by New World Wealth reveals that nearly two-thirds of this economy is controlled by a group of 8,300 super-wealthy individuals.
These individuals are responsible for owning some of the most expensive houses in the country, with prices that may shock many. Nairobi, in particular, is the best-performing prime residential market in the world.
1. Sh400 Million Kenya Deputy President Official Residence ¶
The official residence of the Deputy President is a Sh400 million property built on a 10-acre piece of land in Karen. The residence features two 3-bedroom maisonettes for the housekeeper and the deputy, as well as houses for security officers and other staff members.
2. Mwai Kibaki's Sh500 million Mweiga Home ¶
Former President Mwai Kibaki's home in Mweiga is one of the most expensive houses in the country. The property features a swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a health club, and an in-house canteen for entertaining guests.
3. Raphael Tuju's 500 Million Home ¶
Raphael Tuju's home is a 500 million shilling property that took 10 months to build. In a statement, Tuju noted that it took him 20 years to get to where he is now, starting with his first piece of land purchase at 27 years old.
4. Magnolia Hills - A 600 Million Shilling Property ¶
Located at Magnolia Hills, this six-bedroom home was designed by Kenya's great architects Mehraz Ehsani. The property is capable of accommodating 200-250 guests and features a modern interpretation of life in the Kenyan countryside.
According to ZANA International, "The design of the house is a modern interpretation of life in the Kenyan countryside, where people enjoy brilliant sun-filled days and the beauty of nature, while at night, retire to the darker spaces intended for sleep."
The price of this property was placed at KSh 600 million.
