The two betting giants announced that they have halted their operations in the country, citing a hostile taxation and regulatory environment.
Interior CS Fred Matiang'i launched a major crackdown on betting firms in Kenya in April this year, aimed at regulating the growing betting sector.
As a result of the crackdown, several betting firms have implemented new laws on the withholding of customer winnings at the rate of 20 percent, to abide by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax requirements.
However, some betting firms have managed to adapt to the new regulations, with OdiBets Country marketing manager Aggrey Sayi stating that their clients will now get 80 percent of their potential winnings.
