Published on October 1, 2019, a Kenyan woman has forgiven her husband who stabbed her 17 times and is now seeking to withdraw assault charges against him.

Ms. Peninah Wangechi, a mother of three, made the decision to forgive her husband, Samuel Ndirangu, after he stabbed her multiple times at their home in Karatina, Nyeri County in April this year.

Ms. Wangechi told the court that she made the decision on her own free will and that she was not threatened or coerced into dropping charges against her husband. She also stated that they no longer live together.

Magistrate Alice Mwangi granted the request and released Mr. Ndirangu from custody.

Ms. Wangechi was admitted at Karatina Sub-county Hospital where she was successfully treated and discharged after about a week.
