CS Kobia Warns Women, Youth against Fake Preachers and False Prophets

Published on October 1, 2019

Cabinet Secretary for the Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Margaret Kobia has spoken out against clerics who prey on vulnerable women with false promises of wealth and marriage.

Speaking at Kinoru Stadium, where she distributed Youth and Women Enterprise Funds cheques, Prof Kobia noted that many women were losing their dignity and money to fake pastors who claim to have healing powers and the ability to bring them husbands and wealth.

"There are a crop of priests who exploit women after lying to them that they have powers to heal, make them get husbands or money," she said.

Prof Kobia urged women to seek financial empowerment, enabling them to take their children to good schools and seek medical attention when needed.

"When you have money, you have a voice and no one can push you around," she said.

The CS also warned the youth against relying on handouts from politicians, saying this discourages the working culture.

Her department, she said, was keen on uplifting the welfare of youth, women, and the disabled, with President Uhuru Kenyatta being a champion of youth and women empowerment.
