Published on August 20, 2021, a 36-year-old man who works as a car parking usher in Nairobi city is facing life imprisonment for stabbing his colleague in the stomach with a broken bottle over a Ksh100 service fee.
James Lobocho is accused of willfully and unlawfully causing grievous harm to Bernard Apolo Ominde on July 13, 2021, at Harambee Avenue near Bima House in Nairobi.
According to a police report, an argument ensued between Lobocho and the complainant over the Ksh100 service fee for a vehicle owner. Both men were drunk at the time of the incident.
“Both the accused and the complainant were drunk at that time when the accused struck a broken bottle on the stomach sustaining serious injury,” the report read.
After the incident, Lobocho fled the scene, and members of the public alerted the police, who arrived and found the complainant being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital in a county ambulance.
Witnesses later spotted Lobocho along Haile Selassie Avenue and alerted the police, who arrested him and escorted him to the station.
During his court appearance, Lobocho pleaded guilty to the charge, but the judge warned him that the offense is serious and attracts life imprisonment.
The case was adjourned to August 27, 2021, for the prosecution to provide an update on the complainant's condition and to proceed with sentencing.
