On October 1, 2019, a remarkable act of forgiveness took place in a Kenyan court. Peninah Wangechi, a mother of three, had been brutally stabbed by her husband, Samuel Ndirangu, 17 times at their home in Karatina, Nyeri County, in April of the same year.
Despite the severity of the attack, which left her with stab wounds on her back, chest, and face, Ms. Wangechi chose to forgive her husband and withdraw the assault charges against him.
Ms. Wangechi told the court that she made the decision on her own free will and that she was not threatened or coerced into dropping charges against her husband. She also stated that they no longer live together.
Magistrate Alice Mwangi granted the request and released Mr. Ndirangu from custody.
