On September 29, 2019, the 49th edition of the Concours d'Elegance motor show took place at Ngong racecourse in Nairobi, featuring a spectacular display of vintage vehicles and motorcycles.
The event, organized by the Alfa Romeo Owners club since 1970, drew in over 122 judges who inspected the vehicles and motorcycles before declaring the winners.
Among the highlights of the event was a thrilling performance by singer and rapper Nyashinski, who took to the stage for a one-and-a-half-hour show that left the crowd in awe.
With the aid of a live band, Nyashinski performed renditions of his major hits, keeping the crowd worked up and chanting for more.
However, the main event of the day was the Concours d'Elegance itself, where John Wroe was declared the overall winner with his 1930 Ford Model A, narrowly beating his daughter Veronica Rolls who presented a 1934 Rolls Royce Boatail.
Veronica had won the previous year's event with the same car, but this time, John's older car took the coveted prize of a shield, a medal, and a Sh21,000 voucher.
Other notable winners included Sati Gata Aura, who finished third with his 1947 MG TG, and his other entry, a 1977 Nissan 160J, which finished fourth.
The annual event is held every last Sunday of September and features a range of vintage cars and motorcycles, categorized into different classes and judged on their age, roadworthiness, interior, external finish, and other factors.
