On July 8, 2021, Wale Akinyemi wrote, 'In my last article, I emphasized the importance of dreamers in society, stating that a society lacking dreamers will not progress.' However, he noted that having a dream is one thing, but birthing it is a different story altogether.

What sets truly great individuals apart from others? The answer lies in their ability to surround themselves with coaches who can help them achieve their goals. From Muhammad Ali in boxing to Tiger Woods in golf, and from Venus and Serena Williams in tennis to football clubs with experienced coaches, the common thread is the presence of a skilled coach.

As President Barack Obama mentioned in his memoir, A Promised Land, having coaches played a significant role in his journey to becoming the President of the United States. The role of a coach is not to be a champion themselves but to help others become champions.

According to Forbes, the global coaching industry was valued at $1 billion in 2016, with the US market alone estimated to be worth $15 billion in 2019, with a growth rate of 6.7 percent annually.

While some may argue that the industry lacks regulation, allowing for quacks to operate, the Bible offers a solution in 1 Corinthians 13:10, which states that when perfection comes, imperfection will vanish. The cure for mediocrity is excellence, and the proof of a coach's worth lies in their ability to deliver results.

Anthony Robbins, one of the world's most successful coaches, attributes his success to being coached himself by someone else. He has coached presidents, business leaders, and athletes, and has built a $6 billion empire. Despite his impressive achievements, Robbins emphasizes the importance of being coached by someone who can help him grow.

Robbins' story is a testament to the power of life coaches. At the age of 25, he had already counselled a president, trained executives, and worked with athletes, yet he had only a high school education. He attributes his success to being coached by Jim Rohn, who later became his mentor.

Robbins' story highlights the importance of having a coach who can help individuals turn their dreams into reality. As he says, 'Dreams are the seeds of greatness.' When we have the right coach, we can achieve greatness and make our dreams a reality.

Wale Akinyemi is the convenor of the Street University and chief transformation officer at PowerTalks.
