As the tea bonus payment approaches, Bomet Central Police Commander Musa Omar has sounded a warning about the increasing number of sex workers in the county.

According to Omar, the influx of sex workers is a cause for concern, particularly with the payment of tea bonus due next month.

The women, who have booked lodging rooms in Bomet town and its outskirts of Silibwet, Mogogosiek, and Kapkwen, are suspected to have travelled from as far as Mombasa and Busia in Uganda.

“Be careful of short-lived bliss,” cautioned Omar. “Don’t carry large amounts of money in cash, the women or even marauding gangs might target you.”

The area is known for its rich tea production, and the farmers are expected to turn the town red whenever they receive the bonus.

However, many regret their decision later after being conned out of their hard-earned money.
