ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has sparked a fresh debate in Kenya's political landscape by urging Deputy President William Ruto to retire with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Speaking in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, on September 27, 2019, during a tour to popularize his 2022 presidential bid, Mudavadi said Ruto should not think about running for presidency in 2022.
"We will deal with impunity and trust me to fight corruption and impunity. I have done it before, I have a track record," Mudavadi said, highlighting his commitment to good governance.
He also pledged to run a government that adheres to the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity, and to ensure that the State House operates differently from the White House under President Donald Trump.
Mudavadi's call comes at a time when the party is campaigning to seize the Kibra seat from ODM following the death of MP Ken Okoth, and is represented in the race by Raila's former aide Eliud Owalo.
