A Form One girl from Butula sub-county in Busia County who went missing five days ago has been found, but not before being subjected to a horrific ordeal.

According to police, the girl was kidnapped by three unknown men who took her to River Bujumba, where she was raped and drugged before being abandoned.

Two suspects have since been arrested and are in custody at Bumala Police Station.

Speaking to the press, the girl's mother revealed that the wife of one of the suspects attempted to bribe her with Ksh.10,000 to settle the issue out of court.

"She left for school but did not reach there, they hijacked her here and proceeded to rape her," the mother said.

Busia County has seen a rise in reported rape cases in recent times, with many attributing the increase to the prevalence of night discos in the area.

"Right now, cases that have been reported here are 13,624... we don't hear our leaders talking about it and it's because people fear," said Mary Makokha, director of Rural Education and Economic Enhancement Program (REEP).
