Published on October 18, 2021, Air Tanzania is set to receive a major boost with the government ordering five more aircraft, following a down payment of $258.7 million.
The acquisition of the new planes is expected to be delivered before the end of 2023, raising Air Tanzania's current fleet size to 16. The airline's fleet currently comprises two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, two Airbus A220-300s, and five Bombardier Q-400/Dash 8-400s.
With the addition of two new Airbus A220-300s received earlier this month, Air Tanzania is poised to introduce more international flights. Starting November this year, the airline will begin direct flights to Nairobi, Bujumbura, and Lubumbashi.
As the flag carrier airline of Tanzania, Air Tanzania is based in Dar es Salaam with its hub at Julius Nyerere International Airport. The airline currently operates 12 domestic routes and flies internationally to Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Comoros, India, and China.
