Kenya News: Counties Receive KSh 50 Billion

Counties in Kenya have received KSh 50 billion from the National Treasury after three months of tension and preparations for the KCSE and KCPE exams, as reported on September 18, 2019.

Other notable news includes the investigation into the body of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen, the ongoing KCPE exam, and the mini-election in Kibra.

According to reports, the National Treasury has released KSh 50 billion to counties, which have been experiencing tension and preparations for the KCSE and KCPE exams.

Senators have criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta for signing a contentious bill, which was passed by the National Assembly and changed to July 1.

Senator James Orengo stated that the move shows that the National Assembly and the National Government are using a wrong method to pass laws.

Kalonzo Musyoka Urges Francis Atwoli to Join Politics

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli to join politics, citing his ability to effectively advocate for workers' rights.

Atwoli has been recognized for his efforts in promoting workers' rights, and Kalonzo believes that he would be effective in politics.

Tom Mboya, a former advocate for workers' rights, has also been mentioned as an example of someone who has successfully transitioned from advocacy to politics.

Concerns Over Environmental Damage

Members of Parliament have raised concerns over the slow pace of environmental damage compensation, citing the lack of progress in addressing the issue.

Environment and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary Muhammed Elmi has been asked to provide a report on the government's plans to address environmental damage, but he has requested more time to prepare the report.

MPs have expressed concerns that the process may be compromised by corrupt officials in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and NEMA.

KCPE Exam Cheating Hotspots

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has identified 16 counties as cheating hotspots for the KCPE and KCSE exams.

The counties include Bungoma, Kisumu, Kericho, Narok, Migori, Homa Bay, Meru, and Isiolo, among others.

The list was compiled based on cheating incidents reported during last year's exams and a report from the KNEC.
