On September 11, 2019, Egyptian club Tanta FC's Executive Manager, Ramzi Saleh, sent a letter to Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka, signaling a willingness to negotiate a transfer for striker John Avire.
This development comes after a four-month stalemate involving the Harambee Stars player, his Kenyan club, and the Egyptian suitor.
According to Saleh's letter, Tanta FC is eager to find a solution to the current situation, and is willing to negotiate with Sofapaka.
However, Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa is not willing to let Avire go without a fight. In a statement, Kalekwa likened Avire to 'a woman who starts living with a man before dowry negotiations.'
Kalekwa also maintained that he will not allow Avire to leave the Kenyan Premier League club unless a team pays Sh15 million in transfer fee.
Avire has been out of competitive action for the past three months since he attempted to terminate his contract with Sofapaka to join the Egyptian club as a free agent.
