On September 3, 2019, Morris Kinyanjui, a Kibra by-election aspirant, wrote to Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju, challenging the nomination of football star McDonald Mariga as the Jubilee candidate in the upcoming Kibra constituency by-election.
Kinyanjui, who emerged third in the evaluation exercise, claimed that the vetting process was conducted in secrecy and contrary to the party's regulations. He further alleged that the selection exercise was irregular and a 'sad reminder of the dark KANU days.'
According to Kinyanjui, the party's constitution requires open, free, fair, and transparent nominations, which were not observed in the selection process. He also claimed that the National Election Board arrogated powers it does not have and failed to inform the aspirants about the selection process.
As a result, Kinyanjui has requested an urgent meeting with Tuju to discuss the matter, failure to which he has threatened to appeal Mariga's nomination.
