On September 23, 2021, IHS Markit reported that the Eurozone's business activity had grown at a markedly reduced rate in September, marking the slowest increase since April.

The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), which measures corporate confidence, slipped to 56.1 in September, down from 59 points in August. Despite this, the figure remained well above the pre-Covid longer-term average.

According to Chris Williamson, chief economist at IHS Markit, the overall rate of expansion remains solid, but growth is likely to weaken further in coming months if supply chain headwinds persist.

Williamson warned that European firms are feeling the supply pinch, with companies expressing worry of losing customers due to the ongoing pandemic.
