On September 10, 2021, Pele's medical team at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, provided an update on his condition. The football legend, 80, remains in intensive care but is making a satisfactory recovery after undergoing surgery for a suspected colon tumor.

According to the hospital, Pele was 'actively conversing and displaying vital signs within normal range.' This positive development has brought relief to his fans and loved ones.

On his Instagram account, Pele reassured his fans, saying, 'My friends, with each passing day I feel a little better. I’m looking forward to playing again, but I’m still going to recover for a few more days.' He also expressed gratitude for the loving messages he received, stating, 'While I’m here, I take the opportunity to talk a lot with my family and to rest. Thanks again for all the loving messages. We’ll be together again soon!'

The suspected tumor was detected during routine tests, and Pele has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since August 31, 2021. Considered by many the greatest footballer of all time, Pele has had various stints in the hospital in recent years due to poor health.

As a legendary footballer, Pele has an illustrious career, having won three World Cups (1958, 1962, and 1970) and scoring over 1,000 goals before retiring in 1977. He is affectionately known as 'O Rei' (The King) for his remarkable achievements on the field.
