On a fateful Sunday, July 18, 2021, four families in Kiharu, Murang'a County, were left to mourn the sudden loss of their loved ones in a tragic hit-and-run incident.

According to police reports, four women – Jane Waiego, Mary Njeri, Margret Karura Waithaka, and Mary Waithera – lost their lives in the accident along the curvy Murang'a – Kangema road.

Three of the women died instantly, while the fourth succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at the Murang'a County Referral Hospital.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle was being driven by a teenager who had taken it from his father without permission.

The vehicle was later towed to Murang'a Police Station as authorities launched a probe into the matter.

This incident comes just a month after a similar case in Gatanga, Murang'a County, where a businessman was arrested for allowing his underage son to drive his Toyota Prado TX.

The businessman, Ayub Kinyanjui, was fined Ksh20,000 for his negligence and claimed that his son's driving skills were acquired through playing video games.
