On July 4, 2021, a fierce match between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia took place at Nyayo National Stadium, showcasing the intensity of Kenyan football.

However, the focus has shifted from the pitch to the commercial world, as Gor Mahia has announced that continued use of their trademarks, including 'Gor Mahia FC', 'K'Ogalo', 'The Green Army', and 'Sirkal', for commercial purposes will result in a five-year jail term, Sh200, 000 fine, or both.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier, a seasoned lawyer, has described this move as 'long-overdue', while treasurer Dolphina Odhiambo emphasized that those who plan to violate trademark laws will face severe consequences.

'Gor Mahia is a big brand, but a brand without protection is usually misused,' said Odhiambo. 'That misuse and loss of revenue are what we are trying to curtail using these trademarks.'

The club has empowered its stewards to police the illegal use of the trademarks, and those who plan to misuse them should be aware of the dire consequences.
