KDF Chopper Crashes in Kajiado, Leaves Fate of Passengers Unknown

On June 24, 2021, a Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) helicopter crashed and burst into flames in Oltinga, Kajiado West sub-county.

The KDF confirmed that the aircraft involved was an Mi 171E model, which is an advanced, multi-purpose helicopter produced by Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, a part of Russian Helicopters.

According to reports, the Mi-171E can carry a maximum of 11-12 people, and was conducting a training exercise at the time of the crash.

Rescue missions are underway, with Kajiado County Police Commander Muthuri Mwongera dispatching officers to the scene to gather more information.

“I have dispatched Kajiado West OCPD Vincent Kitili, to the scene in Oltinga to get us details,” Muthuri Mwongera told the media.
