On June 24, 2021, Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu sealed a deal with the Transport Welfare Association (Kinatwa) Sacco to have its members dressed in uniforms and other apparels made at the county government-owned Kitui County Textile Centre (KICOTEC) at subsidized prices.
The arrangement is expected to save the Sacco members money and help nurture the local economy.
According to Clinton Wambua, the Chairman of Kinatwa Sacco, the Governor met with the Sacco members at a Kitui hotel and invited them to do business with the county government-owned Kicotec.
“Henceforth, all our staff uniforms and dustcoats will be sourced from Kicotec. It is cost effective because of the huge discounts we negotiated. It is also a way of helping to nurture the local economy,” Wambua said.
Ngilu also urged the Sacco members to focus on the bigger picture and available opportunities, citing the County Empowerment Fund, which she said would be available for Saccos and business people to access loans at as little as 5% interest once approved by the county assembly.
