Published on June 21, 2021, Tanzanian musician Harmonize has expressed his admiration for Kisii gospel singer Embarambamba's unique style.
Speaking during a press conference at B-club in Kilimani, Harmonize emphasized the importance of East African artists focusing on their identity rather than copying their South African and Nigerian counterparts.
"Music is about culture, and we have our own culture," Harmonize said. "We can't just stop singing our Bongo Fleva and start emulating their style of music when they can't try our music," he added.
Harmonize attributed the success of South African and Nigerian artists to their investment in their identity, saying their music has gained traction across the world.
He also weighed in on Embarambamba's unique style, saying the Kisii gospel singer might find himself on a global stage because of his uniqueness.
"We are supposed to keep pushing our identity. If you keep pushing music has a way of rewarding you, you can be shocked that Embarambamba at the end of the day becomes the one representing us on the international stage," Harmonize said.
