Goalkeepers' Dramatic Goals

May 17, 2021 - Goalkeepers are known for their defensive prowess, but some have also showcased their skills in scoring crucial goals for their teams.

Alisson Becker's 94th-minute header for Liverpool against West Brom on Sunday has sparked a debate about the best goal scored by a goalkeeper. However, several other goalkeepers have also made headlines with their spectacular goals.

One such goalkeeper is Rene Higuita, who scored a stunning free kick for Atletico Nacional against River Plate in the Copa Libertadores semi-final first leg on August 9, 1995. The goal, which flew over the wall and crashed into the underside of the bar, helped propel his team towards the Copa Libertadores final.

Another notable goalkeeper is Jose Luis Chilavert, who scored a low drive for Paraguay against Argentina in a World Cup qualifying match on September 1, 1996. The goal, which earned Paraguay a draw in Buenos Aires, helped propel them to a second-place finish in the South American World Cup qualifying group.

Jimmy Glass, an on-loan goalkeeper, scored a crucial goal for Carlisle against Plymouth in the English third division on May 8, 1999. The goal, which came in the 94th minute, helped Carlisle stay in the Football League.

Oscarine Masuluke's spectacular volleyed overhead kick for Baroka against Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier League on November 30, 2016, is another notable goal. The goal, which finished second in FIFA's goal of the year vote, saved a point for struggling Baroka.

Alberto Brignoli, an on-loan goalkeeper, scored a dramatic goal for Benevento against AC Milan in Serie A on December 3, 2017. The goal, which came in the 95th minute, gave Benevento a first-ever Serie A point after 14 straight defeats.

Rafal Gikiewicz, a goalkeeper for Union Berlin, scored a last-second equalizer against Heidenheim in the Bundesliga 2 on October 7, 2018. The goal, which kept Union Berlin unbeaten early in the season, proved crucial when they sneaked into third place and eventually reached the Bundesliga for the first time.
