President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania is set to arrive in Kenya for a two-day state visit, following an invitation from President Uhuru Kenyatta. The visit comes as the country grapples with the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway, which has caused significant disruptions to traffic.
During her visit, President Suluhu will be using the Southern Bypass, Lang'ata Road, and Mbagathi Road to access State House, covering a distance of approximately 10km from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Bypass junction.
Motorists and commuters have been advised to seek alternative routes, as the construction works are expected to continue for the rest of the year. The Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has estimated that traffic gridlocks cost the capital's economy almost Sh110 billion ($1 billion) a year in lost productivity.
President Suluhu's visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between Tanzania and Kenya, with the two countries sharing a rich history. The Tanzanian leader has expressed her government's readiness to resolve all differences, perceived or real, that exist between the two countries.
