On Monday, former rugby player Alex Olaba was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

The charges come as the prosecution files an application to have the court cancel bail terms in the pending gang rape case involving Olaba.

Olaba pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include two counts of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to defeat justice.

According to the prosecution, on April 14, 2021, and April 22, 2021, Olaba and others conspired to kill K.A. in Nairobi County.

On April 22, 2021, Olaba and others conspired to defeat justice by attempting to cause the death of the key witness K.A. in the matter S.O 27/2020.

Prosecutor Eva Onuga asked the court to cancel the Sh300,000 cash bail issued to Olaba, citing interference with witnesses in the matter.

Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul ordered Olaba to be detained at Industrial Area Prison pending her ruling on the application on May 4, 2021.

Olaba's arraignment comes after he was arrested a week ago and has been in detention for 7 days.
