On July 3, 2020, Devolution Principal Secretary Charles Sunkuli visited Kone Primary School in Loita ward, Narok South Sub County, where he distributed food worth Sh9.5 million to five sub locations in the ward.

The food, which included 600 bags of rice, 600 bags of beans, and over 1,000 face masks, was meant to support the most vulnerable families in the area.

Speaking at the event, Sunkuli emphasized the government's commitment to helping livestock farmers adopt modern farming practices by providing training and necessary inputs for small-scale farming.

'We encourage the county governments to invest in vegetable farming so that every family can have a constant supply of food regardless of the season,' Sunkuli said.

The government's initiative aims to ensure that no citizen sleeps hungry, regardless of their location. Sunkuli also urged the community to follow health guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Additionally, Sunkuli warned against retrogressive cultural practices, such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages, which do not contribute to the economic well-being of society.

Tourism Principal Secretary Fred Segor, who accompanied Sunkuli, announced plans to employ more rangers to mitigate human-wildlife conflict, which has been on the rise in recent years.

Segor revealed that the government has provided Sh120 million in compensation to Narok residents since 2014 for relatives killed by wild animals and Sh10 million in the last month for those injured.

However, he emphasized the need for residents to take responsibility for preventing animal encroachment by fencing their farms and homesteads.

Segor praised the conservancies for their efforts in containing the animals, which he described as a source of pride for the nation.
