Former President Mwai Kibaki's health has been a subject of concern for years, dating back to a 2002 accident in Machakos that left him with a knee problem.

According to his Private Secretary Ngari Gituku, Kibaki recently visited a hospital in Nairobi for a routine check-up, which did not require his admission.

Gituku strongly denied media reports suggesting that Kibaki has been in the hospital for 10 days, calling them 'a gross exaggeration, hollow and baseless'.

He explained that the former president's visit to the hospital was 'more like just passing-by', where he was attended to and returned home.

'I am reading some quarters saying that he has been in the hospital for 10 days. That is far-fetched. It is completely hollow and far from the truth,' Gituku said.

Gituku urged Kenyans to respect the former president's privacy, especially when it comes to his health.
