Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has conceded defeat in the bid to keep hold of 19-year-old contract rebel Angel Gomes, who is set to leave the club as a free agent on Tuesday.
Gomes, a promising winger who has made six appearances this season, was expected to sign a new deal with the club, but talks have broken down, leaving him to depart as a free agent.
Speaking to the press, Solskjaer said: “To be honest, I have not heard from them last night or this morning. So it seems like they've not managed to agree, so the answer is probably short and 'yes' at the moment. I've got no news, so it doesn't look like it [that he will sign a new deal].”
Despite his promising talent, Gomes is set to leave Manchester United as a free agent, with the club keen to keep hold of him. The youngster has made six appearances this season, but the failure to come to an agreement over new terms means he will depart the club when his contract is up on Tuesday.
On a separate note, Solskjaer expressed his delight at Manchester United's FA Cup semi-final draw against Chelsea, saying: “We're delighted to be in the semis, delighted to be looking at the prospect of going to a final. We're going to Wembley for the semi-final, against a team we've played so many times. I've been here 18 months and we seem to have played Chelsea every other weekend! So it's a game we're looking forward to.”
