Singer Paul Okoye's COVID-19 Ordeal: A Family's Fight for Recovery

Published on June 29, 2020

Nigerian singer Paul Okoye and his family have been through a harrowing experience after contracting COVID-19. Okoye, who was the first to test positive, was isolated in his guest room for three weeks, unable to see his sick daughter or wife, who eventually contracted the virus too.

Speaking in an IGTV video, Okoye revealed that he was feeling so bad that he thought he was the one who brought the virus into the house. His wife, Lola Omotayo-Okoye, however, showed great courage by refusing to leave their daughter's side, even when she tested positive for the virus.

"After a week, my daughter caught it and the doctor insisted that she had to be isolated in her room but my wife did something very courageous. She said 'no'. I was so sick and isolated in my guest room, I couldn't even see my sick daughter," Okoye said.

Okoye's wife eventually contracted the virus, as did two of their domestic staff. However, the family has now recovered from the virus and are in perfect health.

"I'm happy to announce that my wife, myself our daughter and two of our domestic staff, all of us are now negative. Many people suspected something was up because of my background and that I was losing a lot of weight so, yeah," Okoye said.

Okoye's story serves as a reminder of the importance of staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. He encouraged individuals to take necessary precautions to avoid contracting the virus.
