Published on July 27, 2021, a Nairobi Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the verification of a medical document presented by Isaac Opondo, an accused person charged with forging letters to transfer ksh3.8 billion belonging to Neutronics Communication Limited.
Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nazushi questioned the authenticity of the document, which was presented to the court through Opondo's lawyer, suggesting that it may not have originated from Aga Khan hospital as claimed.
Complainant's counsel, Danstan Omari, urged the court to cancel bail or bond terms issued to the accused person, citing that Opondo has been evading trial and the matter has been pending in court for long.
Omari also submitted that the complainant, Beatrice Auma, who resides in Canada, has since given her evidence, and only two witnesses, the investigating officer and document examiner, are left to adduce their evidence.
The court directed the case to proceed on August 3, with the verification report to be filed.
The accused, Isaac Opondo, is charged with forging a document on February 5, 2016, with intent to defraud, purporting to have been signed by Beatrice Auma, indicating she had resigned from Neutronics Communication Limited, a fact he knew was false.
