As the country grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, the State Department for Social Protection is set to kick off a massive cash transfer program worth KSh 4.4 billion to vulnerable groups under the Inua Jamii program.

Published on June 29, 2020, the payment cycle covers May-June 2020 and will benefit approximately 1 million beneficiaries.

Each beneficiary will receive KSh 4,000, but only those whose accounts have been successfully submitted to the Consolidated Cash Transfer Management Information System (CCTPMIS) by June 2, 2020, will be eligible for the payment.

Given the risks associated with COVID-19, the State Department has advised public officers to follow strict health safety protocols during the payment period.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to use mobile electronic wallets to receive the payments, and PSPs are allowed to use mobile cashless payment options during the payment period.

“Those not in the current payroll and those that were not migrated in phase 3, will be retargeted at a later date that will be communicated,” said Nelson Marwa, Principal Secretary, State Department for Social Protection.
