On Saturday, May 8, a devastating accident occurred on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway, claiming the lives of a man, his wife, and their three children.

The family was heading to Voi from Mombasa when the accident happened at 5am. According to Coast Regional Traffic Commander Peter Maina, the victims were in a Toyota Voxy that collided head-on with a fuel tanker.

Four other persons in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were taken to Kinango Sub-County Hospital for emergency care. The survivors include the man's second wife, his two other relatives, and a mechanic.

‘The fuel tanker's destination was Mombasa from Nairobi,' said Maina, the regional traffic police boss.

The deceased were taken to Kinango Sub-County Hospital morgue, where they were identified as a man in his early forties, his wife in her early thirties, their two daughters aged 10 and 7, and their 2-year-old son.

The mangled wreckage of the Toyota Voxy and the fuel tanker were transported to Samburu Police Station.
