Former President Mwai Kibaki's health has taken a turn for the worse, with the 90-year-old leader currently undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
According to reports, Mzee Kibaki was rushed to the hospital on June 19 after experiencing severe abdominal pains that made it difficult for him to stomach food.
He has spent about 10 days in the hospital's VIP wing, where medics are working around the clock to manage his condition, believed to be the aftermath of an infection.
Despite initial reports suggesting that the former president's condition was not serious, his handlers have since clarified that he is in hospital for a routine medical check-up.
“It is a normal visit and there is nothing new. He goes there more often for scheduled check-ups be it once in a month or even twice. So no (cause for) alarm,” one of his aides is quoted as saying.
It's worth noting that this is not the first time Mzee Kibaki has been hospitalized in recent years. He made a public appearance in February this year when he visited parliament to pay his respects to the late Mzee Daniel Moi.
