On June 25, 2020, police in Mombasa launched a raid on an apartment in the Nyali suburb, arresting nine suspects aged between 21 and 30 years.

The suspects were taken to Nyali police station, where police found a stash of drugs, including bhang, shisha, miraa, and alcohol, in what appeared to be a house party.

Sh100,000 in 1,000 shilling notes was also recovered from the suspects.

Two women were among the nine suspects arrested, and police found three vehicles believed to have been stolen in the parking yard of the apartment.

The vehicles, a Toyota Allion, a Toyota Mark X, and a Nissan Note, are suspected to have been used by the suspects to escape after stealing from people's cars.

Addressing journalists at the Nyali Police Station, Nyali Sub-County Police Commander Daniel Masaba said the suspects' modus operandi involves targeting people who come from banks and breaking into their cars to steal.

"They break into cars and steal from them. We are currently probing the ownership of these vehicles that we have found in their possession," he said.
