On June 25, 2020, the High Court ordered a retrial for Julius Musyoki Wambua, who was convicted of defiling his daughter in 2011 and sentenced to life in prison.

Wambua's case has been marred by controversy, with his younger daughter claiming in a 2019 interview that her mother had coerced her into testifying against her father.

Now, in a significant development, Wambua's elder daughter, who lives in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, has also recanted her testimony, stating that she was forced to testify against her father.

Wambua's lawyers, Cyrus Maweu, Victor Kamau, and Judith Lema, from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), presented this new evidence to Justice George Odunga, who granted the retrial.
